PHMC Marker Celebrates Virginia Sorensen’s Miracles on Maple Hill

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the Edinboro Area Historical Society and the Hurry Hill Maple Farm Museum Association cordially invite you to attend the dedication of the historical roadside marker honoring Virginia Sorensen, her Newbery award-winning book, Miracles on Maple Hill and the maple syrup industry in northwestern Pennsylvania.

6 pm: Maple Farm to Table Picnic at Hurry Hill Farm & Maple Syrup Museum

 

A major event of the 175th Anniversary of the Incorporation of Edinboro will be the dedication of a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission historical marker honoring Virginia Sorensen, her book, Miracles on Maple Hill, and the maple syrup industry in northwestern Pennsylvania. Ceremonies will take place at the Culbertson Stables 413 West Plum (Edinboro Branch Library on Route 6N) beginning at 2:00 pm and the program will include music, special guests, and the unveiling of the marker. Free maple sundaes will be served after the dedication. Edinboro Branch Library will be open 9:00 am – 5:00 pm for the Miracles display. On the morning of June 27, there will be a driving tour of the sites mentioned in Miracles on Maple Hill. Meet at the Edinboro Branch Library (on 6N) at 9:00 am to carpool. The tour will begin at 9:30. There will be stops at several sites in the book. The tour will culminate in a bagel lunch at the Hermit’s house. Cost is $5 which can be paid that morning. In the evening, Hurry Hill Maple Farm Museum Association located at 11424 Fry Rd. Edinboro, PA is hosting a MAPLE FARM TO TABLE PICNIC. The Maple Tasting Room, museum, and Miracles on Maple Hill room will open at 5:00 pm. The picnic begins at 6:00 pm and is catered by Nick’s Place. The menu consists of Maple Pulled Pork Sandwich, Maple Baked Beans, Farm Potato Salad, Fresh Fruit with Maple Dressing, Maple Cookies, and Maple Lemon Iced Tea. After dinner, Edinboro’s playwright, Michael Hall (Edinboro High Class of ‘58) will direct a short humorous vignette from Miracles featuring “Annie-get-your-gun!” Cost of this picnic dinner is $15 per person. Dinner reservations must be made in advance and payment must be received by June 10.
