Preserving the History & Heritage of Erie County
In 1981, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, 13 heritage organizations came together to create Erie Yesterday.
As a consortium of historical organizations, its purpose was to foster collaboration and provide a unified voice for the people who work together to safeguard and pass on cultural, historical, or natural heritage for future generations.

A Continued Vision for the Future
Today, membership in the consortium exceeds 20 organizations, but the mission remains the same:

Build enthusiasm for local history
and cultivate volunteers, patrons, and donors of culture/heritage through engaging, historically accurate programming.

Become self-sustaining
through community-accepted fundraising events, grant writing and memberships; and be recognized as a leader within the Erie County community.

Strengthen the capacity of our member organizations
through collaboration, marketing, advocacy, and education.

Think of Us As a Local History Cooperative
Erie Yesterday provides resources, support, and promotions for our membership and the Erie County community. This includes promoting awareness of the history and heritage of Erie County, including Erie County historic sites and museums.
We also provide a unified voice for expanding and improving communications with government units, especially in public relations, and serve as a clearinghouse for each member organization’s programs.
