State Park’s March Programs Focus on Presque Isle History

March 1st, 10:30-11:30 am
Outside the Window: Presque Isle Lighthouse
Kids ages 3-5 will learn why a lighthouse flashes and experience a morning at the Presque Isle Lighthouse. Learn the tasks that keep the light burning. $3 per child, registration required. Contact Stacey Marendt at 814-833-7424.

March 9th, 10 am and 12:30 pm
Presque Isle Light House
Join us for an opportunity to climb the 78 spiraling iron steps to the top of the tower. Registration required, no fee, space limited, participants must be 44” tall to climb the tower. Contact Brian Gula at 814-217-9632.

March 10th, 2-5 pm
Presque Isle Trolley Tour
Discover the rich history and importance of Presque Isle during the War of 1812 aboard the Bayliner Trolley. No fee, registration required. Contact Emily Hauser at 814-217-9638.

March 15th, 7-8:30 pm
Evening Campfire Talk: Joe Root
Enjoy our indoor campfire with legendary storyteller, Joe Root. All ages welcome, $2 per person, hot beverages provided. Blankets and warm clothes recommended. Registration required. Meet at the Rotary Pavilion. Contact Brian Gula at 814-217-9632.

March 23rd, 10-11 am
The Construction of Perry’s Fleet
Discover the importance of Presque Isle during the War of 1812 and how Perry’s fleet was built. See the tools and techniques that shipwrights used. All ages welcome, no fee or registration. Meet at Prerry Monument. Contact Ray Bierbower at 814-833-7424.

March 23rd, 1-2 pm
Life of a Sailor
Have you ever wondered what life was like for a sailor aboard a ship such as the Brig Niagara? Learn more about the challenging conditions the crew had to endure. Meet at Perry Monument, no fee or registration. All ages are welcome. Contact John Laskos at 814-833-7424.

March 29th Registration Deadline
Natural Impressions 2nd Annual Mixed Media Student Art Competition
Students in Grades 1-College can enter artworks in this “Historical Presque Isle” themed competition. All art will be displayed in the TREC and winners will be recognized at an opening reception. Show runs April 22 – May 22, 2013. Contact Brian Gula at 814-217-9632.
